Kansas City International Airport Parking

Kansas City International Airport is one of the major airports in the United States of America. It is just fifteen miles from Kansas City, in the state of Missouri, and handles over ten million passengers every year. The airport has several buildings for passenger facilities that are served by a number of well-known airline companies which offer non-stop departure flights to 45 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Formerly, the airport’s name was Mid-Continent International, and therefore it’s IATA code is MCI. Kansas City International Airport Parking is available in several areas, some which are nearby the terminal buildings and others that require a shuttle service.

The state of Missouri is south of Iowa and to the north of Arkansas. It is also surrounded by the states of Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Kansas and Oklahoma. Kansas City is found on the border between Missouri and Kansas, and is nearby to Topeka, St Joseph, Olathe and Columbia. The city’s airport is nearby to the areas of Gladstone, Liberty, Leavenworth and Smithville, and is to the northwest of the downtown area. It is linked to the city by several large roads, including the Interstates 29 and 435, while the Interstate 35 is also important for airport access. The road leading up to the terminals and parking areas is the L P Cookingham Drive. It should not take much longer than twenty minutes to reach MCI from central Kansas City. Once at the airport motorists can choose a suitable parking area in which to leave their vehicles whilst away.

The airport’s terminals are decentralized, which means that there is no central terminal building. Each has its own facilities, for example, check-in counters, baggage reclaim halls, shops, restaurants and airline gates. However, in the future, Terminal A may be redeveloped to be one large terminal for the airport, and the other two (B and C) will either be demolished or used for offices. For now the three terminal buildings are adequate in size for the number of passengers they handle each year. Motorists who are simply dropping off departing passengers may stop outside of the relevant terminal building for a minute or two. The airport roadways cannot be used for parking, but offloading passengers and their luggage items is permitted. Drivers should not leave their vehicles unattended for any reason. They should remain behind the steering wheel. A third party should accompany the passenger if help is required with luggage items.

Similarly, arriving passengers can be collected outside of their terminal, provided that they are waiting at curb-side. Motorists may not park and wait for passengers to arrive. Another convenient option is the Cell Phone Waiting Area, found at Economy Lot A. Here motorists may wait for their friends, family members or colleagues to arrive. The parking area may be used for up to two hours free of charge, thereafter the regular rates will apply. Signs are available reading ‘Economy Parking’ from the airport entrance to help motorists with directions. Then enter Lot A and wait for your passengers to call you. To the terminals motorists will turn left on Mexico City Avenue, left on Paris Street and then right on Cookingham Drive at the first stoplight. The terminals are just a five minute drive from Parking Lot A.

Parking is available for short-term and medium-term stays in the garages outside of each terminal building. The parking garages are within walking distance of the check-in facilities, and are open twenty-four hours a day. The first half an hour will cost $1.00, the second half an hour to an hour will cost $3.00 and every hour thereafter will cost $3.00 until the daily maximum charge is reached of $22.00. These are the more expensive parking areas at Kansas City International Airport, but they are more convenient than the economy lots that are located further away.

Slightly cheaper rates are available at the Circle Parking Lots (Circle E1, Circle E2, Circle E3 and Circle E4). The same charges are applicable as the garage car parks, but the daily maximum is just $15.00. Passengers will also need to take a shuttle service from the parking lot to their terminal building. The shuttles that provide transport on the airport grounds are different colours. The buses travelling between the terminals are red, the rental car shuttles are grey and those between the parking lots and the terminals are blue. The parking shuttles are available approximately every fifteen minutes, between the hours of 05:00am and 01:00am. Passengers can simply use the courtesy telephones in each bus shelter for an overnight service.

The Economy Parking Lots A, B and C are the most cost-efficient parking areas at Kansas City International Airport, with rates of just $6.00 per day. The same blue shuttles are available for the transport of passengers, and they operate between the times mentioned above. All shuttles of the airport are also accessible to disabled passengers, as they are equipped with low floors and have a ‘kneeling capacity’, which lowers the bus. Reserved disabled parking spaces are therefore also available in the Circle and Economy Car Parks. The entire airport complex is regarded as accessible as well, with suitable restroom facilities, elevators and pavement ramps.

Kansas City International Airport parking can be paid for in cash or with major credit and debit cards. The airport also offers valet parking through Park Air Express (at 11500 Prairie View Road), a frequent parker program and a corporate rewards program for frequent business travellers.
