New York La Guardia Airport Departures (LGA)
LaGuardia is found in the American state of New Jersey, and is one of the major New York City airports. Approximately 23 million passengers pass through the airport’s terminal buildings every year, and it is a hub for the airline company Delta Air Lines. The airport was formerly known as the Glenn H. Curtiss Airport, the North Beach Airport and as the New York Municipal Airport – LaGuardia Field, but is today simply LaGuardia Airport, with the official code of LGA. There are many departures on a daily basis from this airport that are offered by several well-known airline carriers, and departing passengers will find all that they require within the terminal building. Various forms of ground transportation are also offered for passengers who would prefer not to park at the airport.
The main access road of the LGA airport is Grand Central Parkway. This road is connected to the Interstate 278 and the Interstate 678. Main roads from the five boroughs of New York City lead to the airport, providing easy access for motorists. The five boroughs are Manhattan and the Bronx (to the west of the airport), Brooklyn and Staten Island (to the south of the airport) and Queens, which is the borough in which the airport is found. The airport is surrounded on three sides by water, as it is located on the waterfronts of Flushing Bay and Bowery Bay. Nearby the airport, are several areas, including Jackson Heights, Astoria, Flushing, Whitestone and East Elmhurst. Departing passengers who intend to drive to the airport can find detailed directions at https://maps.google.com and will find a suitable parking space in one of the airport car parks. There are several lots nearby the terminal buildings that are priced the same, and an Economy Lot that is a little cheaper. Reservations for parking spaces in P2 and P4 are also possible.
Alternatively, departure flights can be reached by public transport, by privately operated shuttles and shared-ride services or by taxis and limousines. Several New York City Buses are available to the airport from the nearby subway stations (the airport does not have its own railway station), and privately run shuttles are available by reservation from all areas of the city and beyond. The NYC Airporter is an especially popular service from Grand Central Station and Penn Station.
LaGuardia departures take place from four passenger terminals. The main terminal is referred to as Terminal B, or the Central Terminal Building. It has a huge variety of facilities, including banking and currency exchange services, Wi-Fi connections and duty-free stores. A few of the restaurants available are the CIBO Express Market, Five Guys Burger and Fries, FIX Coffee and Bakery, Jet Rock, Au Bon Pain and Auntie Annie’s, while it’s shops include the Best Buy Zoom Shop, Duty Free Americas, Hudson Booksellers, Brookstone, Hudson News, Life is Good and the Sunglass Hut. There is also a dental service in this terminal building. Terminal B covers a large area of about six blocks, and has a four-story central area, two three-story wings and four concourses (A, B, C and D). The majority of the airport’s scheduled domestic flights depart from these buildings, which are home to American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, American Eagle, Spirit Airlines and JetBlue Airways. The busiest domestic routes from LGA are to Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, Miami, Detroit, Boston, Orlando and Washington.
Terminal A of LaGuardia Airport is the original building that was used for overseas flights, and is today served by Delta Shuttle. It is also known as the Marine Air Terminal, and is where the largest mural of the Roosevelt-era WPA Federal Arts Program is found. The mural was created by James Brooks, an artist who lived in New York City. Terminal C has departure flights by the airline companies of US Airways (including US Airways Express and US Airways Shuttle) and WestJet, and is otherwise referred to as the US Airways Terminal. Popular flights by these airline companies head to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Boston, Cleveland and Toronto, in Canada. Terminal C is a 28,000 square metre building that was opened in September of 1992, and its main section features a food, retail and concessions court area. It also has a welcome centre on the arrivals level. The Delta Air Lines Terminal, or Terminal D, is from where the majority of flights by Delta Air Lines depart. Delta offers local and international flights to a wide variety of locations, including Aruba, Bermuda, Halifax, Syracuse, Montreal, Ottawa, Kansas City and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
The Delta Air Lines Terminal was constructed by Delta Air Lines, and was opened in June of 1983. It has ten gate positions, a shoe-shine service and a variety of dining opportunities.
LaGuardia, although very modern and efficient, and upgrading their facilities at all costs to ensure that passengers receive only the best service, it does handle over 23 million passengers per annum, and everyone can contribute to smoother departure process. It is wise to learn the most efficient ways to get through the security control checks that are mandatory at all airports around the world. The following tips could help save valuable time for all airport passengers: Pack your luggage in layers – the layers allow the baggage item to be more quickly scanned. Always have your boarding pass and ID on hand. Remove your jackets or coats and your shoes before reaching the security control point, and place any loose metal objects in your carry-on luggage. Laptops should be removed from their bags for inspection. Keep in mind that the regulations surrounding the carrying of liquids in hand luggage are applicable at LaGuardia Airport, and passengers should have prescription cards for any medicines carried onboard. Always allow plenty of time to check-in and get through to your departure lounge.
Various check-in options are available at large American airports, for example, self-service check-in kiosks and online check-in services. Further details regarding LaGuardia departures are available from the airport, or from your airline company.
