Buses to and from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Passengers arriving at Dulles International Airport (IAD) have access to various ground transportation options, including rental cars, taxis, ridesharing, hotel shuttle services, trains, and buses.

Wait for the bus in front of Door 4 on the Arrivals Level in the middle of the Terminal Building. One-way bus fares start at $5.00.

Note: The Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail station offers additional transportation options, including trains and buses.

Silver Line Express Bus

Between 6:00 am and 9:40 pm, this bus runs between the airport and Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station (Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 7:45 am).

The journey takes about 15 minutes, and buses run every 15-20 minutes. Onboard Wi-Fi is available for free. On board, there is a large luggage storage area.

Tickets cost USD 5.00 and can be purchased at Arrivals Door 4's counter.

Metrobus Route 5A

Every 30 minutes, a bus runs between Rosslyn VA and L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C.

There's also a stop at the Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride Garage. At curb 2E, buses are available (Ground Transportation Level).

At the airport:

After exiting the Baggage Claim ramp, proceed to the second curb to board buses. The journey takes 50-60 minutes.

It is open from 5:50 am until 11:35 pm (from 6:35 am on the weekends).

At L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station:

Wait for Metrobus 5A at Bus Stop "J" at L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. The bus stop is opposite the Constitution Center Building on D Street, between 7th and 6th Streets.

The fare for this express service is $7.50, payable by SmarTrip or cash. Prepare your payment when flying from Dulles because there are no SmarTrip card stations at the airport.

Fairfax Connector Bus Route 981 and Route 983

The Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum is served by a local bus. The museum is operated by Route 983, which runs only during museum hours.

Outside of museum hours, Route 981 runs. Reston is served by both routes, which include the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station (USD 2.00). At curb 2E, buses are available (Ground Transportation Level).

Arrive at the second curb after exiting the Baggage Claim ramp to board buses. They leave at 5:54 am and 11:51 pm.

Direct-line Bus Service (Dulles Washington Airport to Washington, D.C.)

Union Station is the stop for all Megabus and Virginia Breeze arrivals and departures in Washington, DC.

Megabus

All departures will be from the bus deck along bays 31-41 at Union Station, located at 50 Massachusetts Avenue.

Metro passengers should make their way to the top level of the train station and then ascend one level to the bus deck.

On the bus deck, passengers must exercise caution and cross only at designated crossings.

The parking garage, accessible from H Street, offers a free Cell Phone Waiting Lot and Kiss and Ride.

Virginia Breeze (Dulles Washington Airport to Washington, D.C.)

It's an intercity bus service between Blacksburg, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.'s Union Station.

The Valley Flyer's daily route includes several New River Valley, Shenandoah Valley, and Northern Virginia stops and ends at Dulles Airport Curb 2A (1.30 pm).

The stop is in a bus-only lane. Please use the Arrivals level or the Hourly Parking lot adjacent to Curb 2A for drop-off and pick-up.

Ticket prices range from $15 to $50 (Arlington VA $15.99 and Washington Union Station $18.99).
