Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is 4.8 kilometers south of Downtown Newark (New Jersey) and 14 kilometers west-southwest of the borough of Manhattan (New York).

Jointly owned by the cities of Newark and Elizabeth, EWR is one of three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area, including John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.

Operations began at the former Newark Metropolitan Airport in 1928. The old complex still has its former 1935 administration building and is now a registered historical landmark, a museum, and a Port Authority Police headquarters.

In 1948, the airport was taken over by the Port Authority and was expanded. In 1972, it was rebranded as the Newark International Airport.

In the aftermath of the terror attack in New York in 2001, the name was changed again to Newark Liberty International Airport.
