Charlotte Douglas Airport Arrivals (CLT)
Charlotte Douglas International Airport is one of the main airports in the east coast area of the United States of America, and serves the city of Charlotte and the surrounding areas. The airport is known by its official code of CLT, and is the largest and main hub for US Airways, an important national airline carrier offering domestic and international flights to a wide variety of destinations around the world. Passengers on Charlotte Douglas International Airport flights have access to a number of useful amenities, and to various forms of ground transportation. They will also be greeted by a modern and efficient airport structure that is designed to best meet the needs of all passengers.
Charlotte Douglas Airport is located to the west of downtown Charlotte, and in the state of North Carolina. It is nearby to Ashley Park and Dixie-Berryhill, and is between the Interstate 485 and Billy Graham Parkway. The roads to the north of the airport, where the airport terminals are found, include the Interstate 85 and Wilkinson Boulevard, as well as Old Dowd Road and Little Rock Road. Landmarks nearby the airport also include Eagle Lake to the south, and the Carolina and Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Courses to the east. The city of Charlotte is quite large, and is surrounded by the areas of Kannapolis, Concord, Rock Hill and Gastonia. It is also south of Winston-Salem, High Point and Greensboro, north of Augusta and Columbia, west of Fayetteville and east of Greenville. Major cities within the nearby neighbouring states include Atlanta (Georgia), Charleston (South Carolina) and Norfolk of Virginia.
The city of Charlotte attracts a large number of tourists, many of whom use the Charlotte Douglas Airport as a gateway. Some of the main attractions of the city include the Bank of America Stadium, the Bank of America Corporate Centre – one of Charlotte’s tallest skyscrapers, the Charlotte Carolina Raptor Centre, the Lowe’s Motor Speedway and Paramount’s Carowinds, which is a major theme park with rollercoasters, many other fast rides and sideshows. There are historical attractions as well, parks and gardens to enjoy and a number of interesting museums and art galleries to explore. Popular attractions found nearby to the city include the Backing Up Classic Auto Museum, with a large selection of classic cars, the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame and the Reed Goldmine State Historic Park.
Passengers can arrive at Charlotte Douglas Airport from many destinations around the world. US Airways offers flights from local and international destinations, while American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Eagle and United Airlines are a few other domestic airline carriers. The majority of the airport’s passengers arrive from the national cities of Atlanta, New York, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Boston, Orlando, Baltimore, Newark, Phoenix and Philadelphia. Airline companies offering flights from international destinations to CLT include Lufthansa and Air Canada, and their most popular flights are from Toronto in Canada and from Munich and Frankfurt in Germany. US Airways flies from the international destinations of Mexico City and Cancun in Mexico, Paris in France, London in the United Kingdom and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. There are seasonal flights available from Dublin, Bermuda, Madrid and Rome.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport consists of a large terminal building that has five concourses. The concourses are referred to as A, B, C, D and E, and the passenger’s point of arrival will mainly depend on the airline company with which they are flying and the origin of the flight. For example, all international flights arrive at Concourse D, apart from those that have originated at airport’s with pre-clearance facilities, such as the Toronto Pearson International Airport, and most domestic flights by US Airways arrive at Terminal E. The other three concourses are used for domestic flights as well, but only Concourse A is not used by US Airways. Passengers who have arrived at the airport will collect their baggage from the lower Baggage Claim level of the terminal, after they have passed through customs and passport control procedures if from an international destination. Domestic passengers can go directly to the baggage claim areas. All facilities of the airport are clearly marked, and mostly within easy walking distance of the arrival gates.
Persons who are meeting passengers at the airport can park in the hourly car park, which is alongside the terminal, and may wait on the lower baggage claim level. There is also a Welcome Centre available should information be required regarding the arrival area of your friends or family members. The airport volunteers are extremely helpful as well. The airport also has a cell phone car park, where motorists may wait free of charge until the arriving party calls for collection.
The ground transport options at Charlotte Douglas International Airport include public buses, private shuttles, courtesy hotel shuttles and taxis. There are no direct rail connections from the airport. The public buses are known as the CATS Sprinter bus services, and are available every twenty minutes for travel to various stops in the city centre. A one-way ticket will cost only $1.75, and the journey is about twenty minutes. A reservation can also be made with one of the private shuttle companies that are permitted to provide transport for airport passengers, or a taxi can be taken for $25.00 for a downtown trip. Taxis are always available from outside the terminal. The airport has rental car companies as well, should a more private vehicle be required. The companies available include Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar, National, Alamo, Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise, Auto Europa and Easycar, and their rental counters are found on the baggage claim level of the main terminal.
